Two starting points
PocketPal’s official documentation describes choosing and running models on Android and iOS. Palmkin’s app approach centres on guided setup, conversations and optional personal memory.
| Question | PocketPal AI | Palmkin’s approach |
|---|---|---|
| Where to begin? | Official app instructions and model selection | Guided setup for a local assistant |
| What to explore? | Different downloadable or imported models | Writing, ideas and personal context |
| What privacy choices matter? | Local and optional online settings | Local chat and optional memory |
Choosing a model
PocketPal describes model downloads and local imports, including Hugging Face integration. That can suit people who enjoy exploring different models. With either approach, choose for your phone and the tasks you care about.
Look beyond text chat
PocketPal also documents voice input, read-aloud and tools. Consult its current instructions and store listing for what your chosen version offers; it would be misleading to describe it as text-only.
Read the network settings
PocketPal documents optional web and remote-server features alongside local use. Palmkin’s local chat has no cloud AI fallback, but downloading a model still uses the internet. “Local AI” does not mean every part of an app stays offline.
Choose for your everyday needs
Think about setup, language, storage and where your data may go. The sources below help you check PocketPal’s current offering. This guide does not rank either approach for speed, accuracy, battery life or privacy.
